Grooving Machine Instructions

Our groover has a simplified and safe design to achieve the task of closing prototype batteries according to desired specifications. Our simplified and safe design was developed with hand fabrication of prototype batteries in mind. The groover has a small foot print and uses an AC100V power supply. Various shapes of grooves can be engraved on to the battery can by changing the jigs.

Operation Steps

1. Open the door of the groover. The motor does not run with the door open.(The door works as an on/off switch)
2. Place the groover with the battery case opening up. Insert the jig in to the opening and lower the can up-down lever (The case is pinched with the up-down jig.)

Fig 1.

3. Close the door after lowering it completely
4. Lower the curling lever located on the right. The lever works as a switch and the work will begin turning.

Fig 2.

5. Lower the curling lever, and push the roller down on the work. Hold it down for approximately 2 seconds. The rotating roller will contact the can to engrave a groove on the battery case (Note: Holding it down for more than 2 seconds will not damage the can)
6. After completing the groove raise the lever, which will turn off the switch to stop the rotation.
7. Open the door. (This turns off the power)
8. Lift the lever.
9. Take out the can.
10. End.
11. Move to the next step.(crimping)

Note:
1. Do not remove the limit switch on the door.
2. Always leave the main switch in the back of the main body on. It the power must be turned off, unplug the cable.(Except for the grove box witch can be reached by hand from either side)
